Terra Madre is an international network of food communities, conceived by Slow Food to give voice and visibility to farmers, fishermen, breeder from all over the world.

Terra Madre’s key event is  the biannual World Meeting which took place for the first time in October 2004 in the northern Italian city of Turin and was attended by 5000 delegates from over 150 countries.

In 2008, for the third edition, more than 7000 people met in Turin: 4000 delegates from 1652 food communities in 153 countries, 800 cooks and chefs, 300 teachers and academics, 1000 students.

Terra Madre brings together farmers from Uganda, fishermen from Mauritania, beekeepers from Zambia, cheese mongers from Italy, giving them the opportunity to meet each other, attend workshops and discuss the major themes of food production. Together they share their knowledge and experiences and compare the diverse and complex issues that underlie what “high-quality food” means to them: issues of environmental resources and planetary equilibrium, aspect of taste, worker dignity and consumer safety.

Producers:

- Michael Champion, Mangrove Mountain;
